Hi Folks,

I am frequently asked the question, “Why is SAFe so popular?” My answer is usually simple. “Because of the business outcomes!” And I’m not being glib when I say that. Whether you’re building sports cars, spaceships, or healthcare systems, you have to be confident that your business will be better off with SAFe than without it, and that kind of confidence isn’t possible unless you are getting tangible results.

I could point to the widespread adoption of SAFe; one million people trained in SAFe, 20,000 enterprises with SAFe-trained employees, over 500 Scaled Agile Partners, Gartner and State of Agile surveys reporting SAFe as the leading agile framework, etc. But those are just indicators.

What matters is whether or not substantive improvements are achievable, and if so, how? So, for everyone who would like a more in-depth response, here is a recent presentation where I share actual results achieved by some of the world’s leading companies including American Express, Bosch, Porsche, Lockheed Martin, Pepsico, and others. I talk about SAFe’s core competencies and key practices that contribute to these results: mindset and culture, Lean-Agile leadership, Lean startup thinking, customer centricity, and design thinking. And I explain why one set of roles, responsibilities, and guidelines has proven to be so effective, and how you can leverage the new Business Agility value stream in your own organization.

The real answer to the question, though, lies in your own practice of SAFe. If your teams are fully committed to SAFe principles and practices, you have some degree of leadership engagement, and you are following the proven steps in the SAFe Implementation Roadmap, you should be experiencing the kind of results described in my presentation: improvements in time-to-market, productivity, quality, and engagement, even in your first year.

Thanks Dean for your thoughts and presentation – very helpful and it fuels some ideas how to open a Value Stream Identification workshop in a few days.
